The installation of two DIVE-Turbines at HPP Darkhan in Kazakhstan has been completed. The two DIVE-Turbines of 2.1 MW each were transported by truck from the production site in Amorbach, Germany to Kazakhstan. On site, the guide vanes were installed into the machine house, more than 20 m deep. The next step was to install the preassembled sets of turbine and generator. Each set weighs 23 tons.
Additional parts of the power plant are the electronic equipment and power plant control, which are located a transport container that is already on site. After connecting the turbines to the container and the public grid and once the civil works are completed, the power plant will be able to start operating.
The power plant Darkhan is located at the river Keles in the South of Kazakhstan at the border to Uzbekistan. It will contribute to the local energy supply in the South of the country, which is currently dependent on energy from the North. This project is part of the worldwide dena Renewable Energy Solutions Programme coordinated by the Deutsche Energie-Agentur (dena) - the German Energy Agency - and supported by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi) within the German Energy Solutions Initiative.
The two turbines in Darkhan are a milestone for DIVE Turbinen GmbH & Co. KG, because they are the first turbines with capacities over 2 MW. Due to the adaption of their manufacturing capacities, DIVE Turbinen GmbH & Co. KG is now able to produce DIVE-Turbines up to 4MW.
